About me

I am currently pursuing my PhD, researching water justice and humanitarian vulnerability in transboundary river systems, with a detailed focus on Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. My work critically examines how control over water resources in the Euphrates–Tigris basin shapes patterns of inequality, displacement, and access to basic rights—especially for children and marginalized communities. By shifting the lens from conflict to justice, I explore how upstream dominance influences health outcomes, community resilience, and the lived experiences of downstream populations. Within a broader framework of environmental justice, conflict prevention, and sustainable development, my research aims to offer new insights into how shared resources can be governed more equitably across fragile regions.

I hold a Master’s degree in International Affairs from King’s College London, specializing in the protection of vulnerable populations in conflict zones, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the American University of Beirut.

Alongside my academic work, I bring over twenty years of humanitarian field experience, volunteering with NGOs in conflict-affected areas. These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of the complex relationships between resource scarcity, displacement, and the erosion of human security.

Professionally, I am an accredited multilingual journalist based in Dubai Media City, leveraging my language skills (Arabic, English, and French) and cultural insight to communicate complex political and humanitarian issues. I am also a published author of two Arabic poetry collections, reflecting my passion for literature, memory, and the landscapes of the Middle East.

As the founder and owner of a private company registered in the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), I have developed leadership, strategy, and organizational skills that complement my academic work—allowing me to approach complex global challenges with a balance of research depth and real-world pragmatism.

The integration of academic scholarship, humanitarian fieldwork, journalistic storytelling, and entrepreneurial leadership shapes my interdisciplinary, human-centered approach to issues of justice, security, and sustainable development.

Research Interests

  • Water justice and humanitarian vulnerability: Investigating how upstream control of water resources affects equity, access, and human security in the Euphrates–Tigris basin.

  • Conflict, governance, and resource management: Examining how water scarcity, transboundary disputes, and legal gaps contribute to displacement and instability in fragile regions.

  • Child-centered environmental justice: Exploring how water insecurity impacts children’s health, education, nutrition, and safety in conflict-affected and marginalized communities.

  • Environmental sustainability and resilience: Analyzing the socio-economic impacts of environmental degradation on rural populations, with a focus on long-term adaptation strategies.

  • Postcolonial development and infrastructure: Investigating how colonial legacies shape today’s infrastructure inequalities and water access in the Middle East.

  • Global cooperation and transboundary resource governance: Studying frameworks for more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable water-sharing policies across politically tense regions.

  • Middle Eastern political ecology: Focusing on the intersection of environment, conflict, and human security in Turkey, Syria, and Iraq—particularly how natural resources are governed in post-conflict recovery contexts.
